AC Installation and Replacement in Highlands Ranch

Summit Heating, A/C, Plumbing & Electrical installs and replaces central air conditioners for homeowners across Highlands Ranch. It’s for households whose AC has quit or is near the end, and for homes adding central air for the first time. You see the options laid out in writing: a minimum-efficiency AC, a higher-efficiency model, or a heat pump. Then you choose, without a hard sell.

Call (720) 870-1580 to schedule a replacement estimate. If your current AC has stopped working, the visit starts as an HVAC diagnostic: $99.95. Your technician reviews the estimate with you, and you can approve it on the spot or later through a link.

When AC Replacement Makes More Sense Than Repair

  • The old AC has failed and the repair doesn’t add up. We show you the AC repair price first when the repair is real. Existing R-410A systems can legally be repaired. EPA rules affect new equipment.
  • You’re replacing the furnace. A new furnace is a natural time to match the AC and coil to it.
  • You’ve never had central air. If your ducts can carry it, central AC can be added. If not, a ductless mini-split cools rooms without ducts. We don’t build ductwork.
  • You’d rather heat and cool with one system. See heat pump installation.

SEER2 Minimums and Refrigerant Rules for a New AC

Colorado sits in the federal North region. A new split AC must reach 13.4 SEER2, and there’s no regional EER2 requirement here. We price the minimum next to higher-efficiency models so you can see what the extra money buys.

Most manufacturers have moved new residential equipment to R-454B, an A2L refrigerant, and R-32 is also used. New systems made or imported from Jan 1, 2025 must meet the EPA’s GWP 700 limit. Systems whose components were all made before 2025 may still be installed.

Douglas County Permits for AC Replacement

Highlands Ranch is unincorporated Douglas County, so a new or replacement AC needs a mechanical permit from the Douglas County Building Division in Castle Rock. Mechanical permits are filed online through the county’s e-permits system, and we file yours. The county has worked under the 2024 International codes since July 1, 2026.

On the electrical side, the county uses the 2023 NEC until a newer edition takes effect on Jan 1, 2027. Under the 2023 NEC, new outdoor AC equipment has needed code-required GFCI protection since Sept 1, 2026. (Douglas County, checked Nov 2026.)

Whether the condenser sits in a BackCountry side yard near Mountain Vista High School or behind a house near Daniels Gate Park in 80130, the permit route is the same.

AC Installation Cost Factors in Highlands Ranch

  • Efficiency level: a 13.4 SEER2 unit costs less than a higher-efficiency one
  • AC or heat pump
  • Matching the coil and furnace
  • The disconnect and GFCI protection the code requires
  • The Douglas County permit and inspection
Xcel’s central AC rebates ended for invoices dated after Jan 1, 2024, and the federal 25C credit does not apply to equipment placed in service after 2025. If you choose a heat pump instead: Xcel rebates may apply. We confirm current amounts with your quote. Xcel rebates apply to Xcel customers only; some addresses south and west of Denver are served by IREA. Programs change without notice. Eligibility is confirmed at quote. Checked Nov 2026.
